Avoid Curbsiders

When selling a car privately you are at risk of falling victim to individuals who sell cars outside the law. If that’s the case, you might find yourself in a very dangerous situation. The curbsider it will buy your car and will try to resell it for a profit. They never change the ownership and drive your car around the city with fake plates and without insurance.  In case of an accident they usually abandon the car and you are still the legit owner. You need to protect yourself!

Don’t sell to curbsiders, knowledge is the power. Here are some easy steps to protect yourself when you sell privately:

• Always ask for more than one piece of ID.
• Always transfer the car under the buyer’s name at the MTO
• Always get a signed bill of sale
• Never let the buyer drive your car away with your plates no matter what
